Counting Down to The Yukigassen Snow Battle in Alberta, Canada

The word Yukigassen originates from Japan and translates to snow (Yuki) and battle (kassen) and it literally is one big snowball fight.  The game is played throughout the frosty globe and will next be fought in Jasper, Alberta, one of Canada’s acclaimed winter sports destinations.

Yukigassen incorporates a little bit of capture the flag, a bit of dodgeball and a whole lot of fun.  To win you have to capture your opponent team’s flag or eliminate all their members by hitting them with snowballs.  You will also win if you have the most team members left at the end of a round.

And yes, everyone has to wear helmets because with 90 snowballs coming at you per 3 minute period, it’s best not to take any risks.
